JobMon Frequently Asked Questions

I’m attempting to run JobMon on Solaris 2.7+ and Sybase12.5, and receive the following error. What is happening?

install_driver(Sybase) failed: Can't load 'auto/DBD/Sybase/Sybase.so' for module DBD::Sybase: ld.so.1: ./JobMon: fatal: auto/DBD/Sybase/Sybase.so: open failed: No such file or directory at /PerlApp/DynaLoader.pm line 212.

Perhaps a required shared library or dll isn't installed where expected at JobMon.dbiprl line 239

JobMon uses a 32-bit Sybase client, instead of a 64-bit client, and therefore references the 32-bit shared library files, libcomn.so, instead of the 64-bit shared library files, libcomn64.

Troubleshoot the problem by doing the following:

  • verify that the 32-bit library is available
  • set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as follows:
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$SYBASE/OCS-12_5/lib$SYBASE/ASE-12_5/lib:/usr/lib:/lib

If the error persists, the shared library file, libtli.so, is missing. Contact either Sybase or Stirling Systems Group for the 32-bit libtli.so file.

I receive a connection error when attempting to connect to the AutoSys database. What is happening?

Most likely your database cannot resolve the database server name. Enter the following name depending upon your AutoSys database type:

  • Oracle - enter the SID or TNSAlias
  • Sybase - enter the dataserver name as entered in the $SYBASE/interfaces file
  • MS SQL - enter the ODBC driver name defined

When I start Jobmon, I get all types of emails sent to me. Is there a way to limit or stop that?

Do not include a wildcard character "%" in the jobname to match field. The wildcard character is only used when you want to JobMon to forward alerts for ALL jobs.

When I make changes to JobMon configuration or notification parameters, do I need to stop/restart JobMon for the changes go into effect?

Yes. JobMon reads the configuration and notification settings upon startup and stores the settings in memory to speed performance.

Is there a way to use freeform text in messages?

That depends upon what you mean by freeform text. JobMon will forward the contents of the Alarm Comments field if any are entered. These comments can be entered automatically with a script?

AutoSys can integrate with Unicenter TNG to send alerts. Why would I use JobMon?

JobMon also captures and forwards a FAILURE job's exit code. In addition, if you are using AutoSys v3.5 or older and a UNIX EP, integration with TNG is not supported.

Does JobMon only forward alerts for FAILURE status?

JobMon forwards alerts for:

  • Open Alarms
  • Jobs in FAILURE or TERMINATED state
  • Jobs stuck in STARTING or QUE_WAIT state
  • Jobs that may be running too long, based upon prior run history

Does JobMon only support Windows?

The free 15-day evaluation version of JobMon is compiled for Windows, however it monitors an AutoSys database on UNIX or Windows O/S. JobMon can be compiled for Solaris or HP-UX for purchase.

How can I configure JobMon to perform in an AutoSys H/A environment?

JobMon is designed to read from one AutoSys database. If AutoSys is running in H/A mode with dual Event Servers (databases) you should configure JobMon to read from the failover Event Server (instead of the primary), since in H/A mode AutoSys will write to both databases simutaneously. If the primary database goes down, JobMon will continue to read and process alerts from the failover database.

Verify that the Sybase interface file or the Oracle TNS Names file includes entries for both database servers.

Can I change or customize the alert message text?

Yes. To modify the output, select the option to send the JobMon alerts to an "External Application" and create a parse script to convert the JobMon output to add comments or change the alert as desired, and then send as desired.

JobMon uses this approach to integrate with Unicenter TNG and a sample script is included with JobMon. If you would prefer Stirling Systems to customize the message for you, we can provide this programming for a modest fee.
